本作は自身の名である「無幻」を、書ともグラフィティとも判別できない筆致によって描いた作品である。

文字はグラフィティのタグのように省略され、装飾と歪みを伴いながら書かれる。それは意味を伝える言葉ではなく、存在を刻むための名前の書き方である。 西洋美術史において、古典では作者は作品表面に現れず、近代では署名によって作者性が浮上し、コンセプチュアル・アート以降の現代アートでは作者性の排除へと向かい続けてきた。グラフィティは、その反動として作者名そのものを極端に肥大化させる表現であり、名前自体が作品となる地点に立つ。 文字の上部に配されたイバラの冠は、名を押し潰し、歪んだ幻を循環させる装置として機能する。それは断絶と反復を繰り返す日本前衛の歴史構造を示しており、この悪循環から抜け出すためには冠を破壊するかさらに圧力をかけて歪めきってしまうかだ。 本作は作者性の排除へと向かった現代アートの反動であると同時に、その先を検証する試みである。都市に存在を刻むタグがあるように、本作は日本美術史の余白に刻もうとする、消去されうる名前なのである。

This work renders my own name, Mugen (“Infinite Illusion”), in a brushstroke that resists clear classification as either calligraphy or graffiti. The characters are abbreviated like a graffiti tag, written with distortion and ornamentation. They do not function as language that conveys meaning, but as a mode of inscription through which existence itself is carved into the surface. In Western art history, the artist did not visibly appear on the surface of the work in the classical period; in modernity, authorship gradually emerged through the signature; and from Conceptual Art onward, contemporary art has persistently moved toward the erasure of authorship. Graffiti, as a counterforce to this trajectory, radically magnifies the artist’s name itself—standing at the point where the name becomes the work. The crown of thorns placed above the letters functions as a device that crushes the name and circulates a distorted illusion. It evokes the historical structure of the Japanese avant-garde, marked by cycles of rupture and repetition. To break free from this vicious cycle, one must either destroy the crown or subject it to even greater pressure until it is completely deformed. This work is both a reaction against contemporary art’s pursuit of the elimination of authorship and an attempt to examine what lies beyond it. Just as a tag inscribes presence onto the city, this piece seeks to carve a name—one that may yet be erased—into the margins of Japanese art history.
